Ingredient Spotlight: Watermelon Seed Oil

Ingredient Spotlight: Watermelon Seed Oil - Organic Bath Co.

Before starting on this healthy beauty journey, I (like a lot of people!) was incredibly against putting any kind of oil on my face. I selected my skincare based on the marketing labels that companies tacked onto products to convince me my hard-earned money was going to be well-spent on yet another face lotion or cleanser or spot treatment. “Oil-free” was the tagline that most often enticed me.

But since none of those products actually worked, and since I discovered how harmful many of the ingredients in traditional skincare can be, swapping out oil-free lotions for healthy, skin-enhancing, plant-based oils has become a necessity. There are so many incredible oils out there that can heal, soothe and improve your skin.

Watermelon seed oil is one of my favorites. It’s starting to become more popular in the healthy beauty industry because of its incredible benefits for all types of skin, including aging or blemish-prone complexions.

It’s the combination of its high vitamin, mineral and essential fatty acid count, plus its natural detoxing ability that makes it special. Essential fatty acids are crucial to helping skin maintain elasticity and bounce back from injury and inflammation. Lycopene, which gives tomatoes their red color and is found in watermelon seed oil, is also an antioxidant that strengthens skin against free radicals, helping to prevent and reduce signs of aging.

The oil is also high in linoleic acid, which is a fatty acid that helps regulate energy. When applied to the skin, linoleic acid helps create an impermeable barrier layer between skin and water, meaning that it encourages and supports your complexion as it’s retaining water and holding in moisture. Dry skin be gone!

But watermelon seed oil isn’t just for mature skin: The oil, cold-pressed from sun-dried watermelon seeds, hydrates while letting skin breathe, which encourages detoxification. Its light, non-greasy texture is great for oily or blemish-prone skin types because while it moisturizes, it also dissolves and regulates sebum production. It actually helps your skin get rid of the dirt, grime and grease that can build up to create blemishes.

Watermelon seed oil’s multi-faceted benefits are part of the reason why it’s a key component of the Organic Bath Co. Enhance Face Oil. The oil was created to bring out your best skin, letting your natural beauty shine through—and watermelon seed oil is the perfect conduit for improving skin’s overall texture, encouraging gentle detoxing and supporting a glowing complexion.
